Outdoor Rock Climbing: Module 1 is the first step to climbing outside. It is the foundational course that teaches you the essential safety procedures and rock skills needed to climb safely and with confidence
If completed together with Outdoor Rock Climbing: Module 2, the student earns a certificate of completion recognized by the state mountain federation (FEMERJ). Together, the two courses satisfy the pre-requisites of many of our other courses, such as Multi-Pitch Lead Climbing, and allow the student to participate in our guided climbs
The course is 100% practical - you will learn all concepts on the rock and immediately have the opportunity to practice them

Course details
Outdoor Rock Climbing: Module 1 builds a strong foundation for rock climbing safety, excellent technique, and rapid progression. We use a fully comprehensive curriculum that has been developed by leading, certified rock climbing guides. You will learn everything you need to know to participate as a second climber on single-pitch and multi-pitch routes

No rock climbing or outdoor experience is required
All fitness levels are welcome
Children 10 years and older can participate when booking together with an adult

The course is typically offered Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon period. Start times vary according to the time of year

What is included
Certified rock climbing instructor
Your individual rock climbing equipment: rock shoes, harness, helmet, belay/rappel device and accessories. Please indicate your sizes in the booking form
Collective rock climbing equipment: rope, quickdraws and anchor building equipment
Return from Sugarloaf to Morro da Urca by cable car (from Morro da Urca we descend by trail)
What you should bring each day
Personal identification document (e.g., driver's license, student card, passport)
Water (1.5L per person) and snacks
Sunscreen and bug repellent
Backpack to carry your belongings and keep your hands and arms free. Handbags and shoulder bags are not permitted
Wear outdoor shoes with good traction on rock. Flip-flops and casual sandals should be avoided
