After learning the basics and developing confidence as a second climber, learning to lead is the natural next step. The Multi-Pitch Lead Climbing course will prepare you with all the necessary skills to safely lead multi-pitch routes. Skills learned in this course will also allow you to lead sport routes and set up single-pitch top rope

Course details
This course is ideal for climbers who have outdoor climbing experience as a second climber and are excited to start leading their climbs!
We will customize the course to suit your ability and skill level. You do not need to be climbing high difficulty grades in order to learn to lead. What is more important is that you have a solid grasp on the basic safety procedures.
What you will learn
Fixed protection types and corresponding considerations
Preparing to lead: rack organization, stacking the rope, belayer position and communication
Leading: rope management and clipping methods
Top rope anchor building and cleaning
Multi-pitch belay station setup
Avoiding factor-2 falls
Belaying the seconder
Transition at the station: gear and rope management for lead swapping and non-swapping situations
Climbing in a party of three: roping and transition techniques
Building rappel stations and multi-pitch rappelling
Problem-solving in challenging situations (example: rope gets stuck in a multi-pitch rappel)
Basic rock rescue and improvisation
Sport ethics

Prerequisites
Prior multi-pitch experience (as a second climber) is required. This course is not intended for first-time or beginner climbers
All fitness levels are welcome

What is included
Certified rock climbing instructor
Collective rock climbing equipment: rope, quickdraws and anchor building equipment
What you should bring
Your individual rock climbing equipment: rock shoes, harness, helmet, belay/rappel device and accessories. You can borrow from us if you don’t have your own set or are missing an item. Please indicate any equipment needs in the booking form
Water (1.5L per person) and snacks
Sunscreen and bug repellent
Backpack to carry your belongings and keep your hands and arms free. Hand bags and shoulder bags are not permitted
Wear outdoor shoes with good traction on rock. Flip-flops and casual sandals should be avoided
